The Edsel is back from the bodyshop

Well it's been awhile since I posted because it's been awhile since I've had my car. Back in May I finally realized that my bodywork skills weren't up to snuff, so I sent the car to a bodyshop to have them fix the work I did, as well as some additional work. They redid that quarter-panel patch I had welded in, and they did the other quarter-panel and both rockers. They did great work! Attached are some photos. I have a couple of other body issues to take care of: some spots on the roof as well as a door skin to replace. I'm going to try and fix the roof, and hopefully I won't have to have someone fix my work again!

Not much to report except I finally took down from the rafters, the fenders I bought a few years ago. I placed them on the car unbolted to see what they looked like. It's nice to see that my car might actually look like a car again someday. One thing about buying body parts: they might not come from a car with the same kind of trim as the one they are going on. In this case, my fenders had two chrome spears on the side. The replacements apparently only had one. I guess some drilling will be in order.

Just some small stuff

Attached the anti-squeak seal that goes between the inner and outer fenders. Also took off the handles on the front door so I could remove the door panel. SMS makes reproductions that are copies of the originals so I will be replacing my old ones. Also, the car is going to be going to a body shop. I just can't get the bodywork to my satisfaction. Better to leave it with someone who knows what they're doing. It should speed up the process too. Off to Carlisle this week, hope to find some nice parts though I'm not really looking for anything!

Reassembly in progress!

Been a while I know...here's what's been happening: Reassembly of the front end is in progress and coming along well!

Just a short update

Only a few things to update. I'm still working on the quarter panel patch. I think I finally have it smooth enough. I was working on it some more to avoid using any bondo and I think I may have got it to where I won't. I've done a little on the front end. I want to start putting it back together (to make room in my basement if nothing else). There are two tubes that funnel air to the cabin and they had some surface rust. So I sanded them down and put some paint on them. They aren't anything that will ever be seen again, once the front is reassembled and the fenders are on. But I didn't want to leave them as they were. I'll try to get some more done this weekend. I bought a 1972 Ford station wagon that unfortunately needs my attention too. It wasn't supposed to be a project but the car developed an electrical problem a week or so after I bought it. It's to be my regular ride so I have to get it back on the road.
